Definitely Better

I don't enter many contests and giveaways. I only enter the ones that I really want to win on blogs/sites that I read regularly. This post, my friends, is an entry to win a new Husqvarna Viking Serger on Sew Mama Sew! OMG! I feel like squealing like a little girl at a NKOTB concert. Here is my entry:

My life would definitely be better with a serger. Definitely. And how!

1. I'd be happier. And everyone knows that when mama's happy, everyone's happy. Mostly. Ask the baby, he knows.

2. I would have the time and ability to work with more knits. And I loves me some knits. There's this gorgeous tan with black, mustard, and white flowers that I've been eying. Makes me all warm and fuzzy just thinking about it. Sadly, this mobile phone photo doesn't do it justice...

gotta have it

3. I would spend less dough by making more clothes for my family instead of buying them. BUT! I'd still be pumping money into the economy because I'd have to the buy the fabrics to make the clothes. Aw yeah! I'd also save a bit of dough if I won this here serger, because, you know, I wouldn't be buying it. But, on a serious note, I don't think I'd be buying one anytime soon anyway, we just can't afford it.

4. I'd be able to turn the designs in my head into real life garments. And everyone knows (sing it with me) the best part of waking up is sewing something up!

5. I'd be able to add cool serged top stitching. A serger can do that right? Topstitch?

6. I could sew faster, or sew they say - I wouldn't know, as I don't have a serger. Sewing faster would mean that I could spend more time with my kids. And more time with my kids means a happier mama, refer to #1 above.

happy

7. If I had a serger, I could be like all those cool cats who add statements to their products like, "all seams serged for added durability", you know the ones.

I don't want to be a cool cat, really. I just want to be able to sew more and sew more efficiently. As a wife and working mother, it's pretty difficult to find time to sit down and sew - I really need to get the most out of what time I do have. This serger would help. Here's to hoping.

My Creative Space: A Gift

Remember Karla's bag last year? Here is her bag this year.:

A Bag for Karla

Isn't the fabric great? I'm definitely making another bag out of this fabric. I know, I know, the button closure is off center, I'm hoping she'll forgive me. I'm thinking zipper next time.

Inside pockets. You know, for a cell phone. And maybe a pen.

It's midnight. I have nothing clever to say. But really, do I ever? Peace out.

Preview

We are slightly obsessed with Avatar in our house. No, not James Cameron's wanna be Avatar. The original Last Airbender Avatar. I will eventually get around to blogging about it on my other blog, while posting pictures of the cool costumes I've been making on this blog. And that, my friends, is called cross-promotion (which probably won't bring me additional traffic either way so it really isn't as effective as it sounds). A preview for you:

My mind is blown

Who would have known that sewing a button hole with an automatic button hole foot is even easier than hemming a skirt? People who know that, that's who.

Automatic Button Hole Foot

This whole sewing garments thing is pretty cool. If only inserting a zipper was this easy.

Cool like dat...

I did it. I made something for myself. This is the first bag that I made with the 100% intention of it being a bag for me. All mine. Mwahahaha!

My new bag

It's a terrible picture, I know, so I took a close up shot of the fabric to give you a better look.

Look familiar? It's the same fabric as the first skirt I made for myself - first skirt, first bag - now I can be a total goober and walk around with a matching skirt and bag. Ah, but that's not all, I have a button down blouse chalked up in this same fabric too. And I still have several yards in my stash waiting to be made into a dress. Or something. Aw yeah. Cuz I'm cool like dat.

Creative Question: Sandwiches

I've been slacking off with the Creative Questions, but I'm willing to bet that I'm the only who noticed. Instead of every week, I think I'll change it up to every two weeks. And although no one has joined in yet, I'll still keep it the link exchange up in case anyone decides to give it a try.

I love to eat. I mean, really, it is any surprise seeing as how the last Creative Question was also about food?

What are your two favorite sandwiches?

1. Patty Melt. Have you had one? Would you believe I had my first patty melt when I was 20 years old? It's like I grew up in the boonies or something. (FYI, I did.) I still remember that petty melt like I had just eaten it yesterday. Crispy and buttery, juicy and melty. Aw yeah. DJ's Greek Diner in Covina, thank you. Thank you.

2. Turkey with Cranberry Sauce. I loves me the turkey and cranberry sauce sandwich. I love it when I make it at home, I'd love it when you make it at your home, I love it from Quiznos, I love it from the deli on the corner, I love it in the chain restaurants, I even love it at Blimpies. Yes, it's true, I even love it at Blimpies.

And because now I'm drooling a little bit, let me just add my honorable mentions:

1. The French Dip. Who can resist this? Not I, said the hippo. Tender thin slices of beef on soft and sometimes crusty bread, dippping, nay, soaking each bite into warm savory au jus. Oh my gosh, I think I gotta go to Bobby Cadillac's now - it's the best your gonna get on Saipan. But if you want a patty melt, trust me, go to Wild Bill's - don't forget to ask for rye, it's not standard.

2. Reuben. Have you ever smelled a Reuben? I had never heard of a Reuben sandwich until I was 18 and hung over in my dorm room late one morning when my roommate and her boyfriend walked in and the combined smell of the corned beef and sauerkraut was enough to set my stomach churning. It was not a pretty sight. For the next several years, I stayed away from the Reuben like it was a sandwich devised by the devil himself. (Perhaps that isn't the best analogy.) But then one day, not too long ago, I saw James eat one. And no matter what delicious food I have in front of me, James's food always looks better. He so graciously let me taste his devil sandwich and, oh my, it was good. Yes, it was good.

I do have more exciting Creative Questions planned. But right now I have eating on my mind....
